AgriGater3 beta-version coming early 2010

AgriGater3 is a program that no farmer, advisor, rural lender, agronomist or farm management lecturer, should be without. AgriGater3 encompasses the real complexities of farm management, making it a multi-purpose tool for the agribusiness sector.

AgriGater3 is now compliant with accountants' standards using a double entry system and a chart of accounts. Other brilliant new features include agistment management, amortized loans, benchmarking and salvage values for plant.  The next version of AgriGater encompasses both the broadacre and horticulture programmes, and together with the upgrades, AgriGater3 is a robust, flexible and powerful decision support tool for any person working in the agricultural sector of Australia.  

Initially a beta-version of AgriGater3 will be available in February 2010 and the AgriGater Team will be seeking people to help test the program. AgriGater3 will not be finalised on CD until feedback has been received from those who have extensively trialled the program. This will allow the AgriGater Team to rectify the problems, before publishing the CD by June 2010. This will mark the end of the AgriGater project.

AgriGater - what is it?

AgriGater is a farming computer program that helps farmers to make better paddock management decisions. AgriGater calculates gross margins, costs of production, cash flow, equity, profit and loss to assist farmers in managing their business.

Unlike any other software package, AgriGater is free. The program aims to be simple and user-friendly by generating useful reports for all farming systems. The program is not designed to tell farmers what to do; it gives the real facts of what is happening on the farm.

AgriGater can also be used to create scenarios to predict best and worse case financial situations for the production year. This tool is ideal for farmers to position themselves for the best possible results.

The AgriGater software is proudly provided by the Department of Primary Industries Victoria, to encourage farmers, farm managers, agronomists, rural lenders, accountants and family to share in the conversation of farm business management.

AgriGater - who is it for?

AgriGater Broadacre is for every dryland farmer, whether they specialise in one commodity, manage mixed enterprises, share farm or even lease out the entire property. AgriGater is a flexible and inclusive program for all farming systems.

AgriGater Horticulture is designed specifically for horticultural industries, by including a specialized water module to suit the needs of all of these growers.

As well as farmers, the AgriGater program is the ideal tool for agronomists and rural lenders to utilise for each of their farmers as an additional tool for all financial decision making processes.

AgriGater - how does it work?

AgriGater is based on a calendar year. The program calculates all of the financial information required to make smart business decisions on the farm.

The purpose of AgriGater is to help with planning; it will not maintain paddock or financial records and it cannot be used for taxation purposes.

AgriGator works by entering a comprehensive list of operations and inputs. This data is already loaded into AgriGater making each step fast and efficient.  Every option can be changed which provides the flexibility to customize costs. This feature ensures that every farm can use AgriGater.

To make sure that the whole farm's business is analysed AgriGater requires all budget figures such as land leases, investments, loans, drawings, overheads, off farm income and a quick evaluation of machinery and land values.  AgriGater uses this information to produce a wide range of reports to show each farmer their financial situation and predicted outcome for the year.

AgriGater is a relatively simple program compared with many other software packages. The more accurate the information entered, a more accurate report is produced. A great benefit of AgriGater is that is does not require an extensive record-keeping background and business records and receipts are not required.  Information that is required includes paddock plans for the year ahead, including operations and inputs.  AgriGater can be downloaded and used by a farmer at any time.

AgriGater does not instruct farmers of the best management practice; it is simply a cost and income measuring program that gives realistic results about farm finances.

AgriGater - what are the minimum computer requirements?

AgriGater has been development using Microsoft Access 2003.  The software is provided as a complete installation package (under license) that is compatible with any computer using any version of Microsoft XP or Microsoft Vista.  Users are not required to have an installation of Microsoft Access 2003.
