The Victorian Government has developed the AgriGater software to assist the agriculture industries to better manage drought and adjust to the challenges of climate change. The new AgriGater is one of the first examples of the new generation services being provided by Victorian Government as part of the Future Farming Strategy announced in April 2008.
AgriGater is the result of five years of work by the AgriGater Development Team working for Farm Services Victoria division of the Victorian Department of Primary Industries. Beginning in 2005 with the delivery of the ‘Back In Black’ workshops, the Farm Services Victoria Grains Team shared in the discussion on the importance of cash flow management in modern sustainable farming practice.
In 2006, drought saw investment by the Victorian Government into the development of AgriGater 1.0 to enable a greater conversation regarding business management issues in the Victorian Grains and Sheep industries.
In 2007, after the successful launch of AgriGater Version 1 and an increasing challenges in maintaining profitable farming businesses lead to further investment being made in the development of AgriGater. With considerable demand from both the cattle and horticulture industries, AgriGater was redeveloped into AgriGater Broadacre and AgriGater Horticulture.
In 2009, after much feedback and assistance from industry advisors and growers alike, we are proud to soon be offering AgriGater 3.
With these tools the Victoria Government hopes to encourage a deeper understanding and improved capability of the agriculture industry in the area of strategic business planning and business management practice. We see this area as vital to the future success of Victorias important agriculture industries.
